There are a number of foods that are very dangerous for dogs. They can become very ill or even die from them. We will discuss a few of them and have added a list of other poisonous foods for dogs.
Chocolate
Chocolate is in high demand here at the Engel household. But with 4 cats, Stitch and often one or two dogs staying over, we have to be very careful when eating it because it is very poisonous to the animals. Cocoa contains the substance theobromine, which is very dangerous. It causes tremors, vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, hyperactivity, increased heart rate, seizures and possibly death.
Because the substance is in the cocoa, pure or cocoa powder contains more theobromine than milk chocolate. However, with every piece that you suspect your dog has eaten, it is wise to contact the vet immediately.
Grapes, raisins and currants
Never give your dog the chance to eat a grape. There is a substance in it that can lead to kidney failure. Because raisins and currants are dried, the concentration of the substance is even higher. Symptoms that can occur include vomiting, sluggishness and staggering.
Onion, garlic, shallot, leek, chives
These beloved ingredients in our own diet can cause a lot of damage to dogs. It causes the number of red blood cells to decrease, which causes anemia. This causes the body to have a lack of oxygen, the dog becomes tired and lethargic.
Pit
The pits of stone fruits such as apricots, peaches, plums, persimmons and cherries contain cyanide. Deadly for humans and animals! The pit can also get stuck in the throat, which can cause suffocation.
The seeds of an apple or pear should also be absolutely avoided.
Nuts
Macadamia nuts and walnuts in particular are a no-go! They can cause paralysis, fever, vomiting, increased heart rate and death. As a rule, try not to feed your dog nuts. Only peanuts (peanut butter without additives!) are safe. But in moderation, because they contain a lot of fats.
